Building link pages for clients, with an agent doing the typing

A client does not pay you to type their links. They pay you to know which three of their eleven links belong on a phone screen.

Where the agent belongs in the process

The useful division is simple. You decide what goes on the page, in what order, with what words. The agent builds it, checks it, and hands over the links. Every minute it saves is a minute of typing, and none of the minutes it saves are the ones a client is buying.

In practice that means the brief still happens by voice or in writing, with a human on both ends. Then one call creates the page from what the brief said, a read-back as text confirms it, and the whole thing is in front of the client the same hour rather than the next day.

  1. Import what already exists: their current link page or their Instagram profile, so the first draft is made of their own material.
  2. Cut it down. Most clients arrive with eleven links and leave with five; that cut is the job.
  3. Build and publish, then send the address and a text version so they can read it on a phone in a meeting.
  4. Iterate with small updates rather than rebuilds: one field at a time keeps the history clean and the client calm.

Who owns the account

  • The client, always. A page you own on their behalf becomes a hostage the day the relationship ends.
  • Hand over the claim link and let them set their own e-mail and password: the account becomes theirs and your key keeps working until they revoke it.
  • If they already have an account, they can attach the page to it from the claim link while logged in.
  • Write the revocation step into your handover note. A client who knows how to remove your access trusts you with it.

What to keep doing by hand

Choosing the address is a conversation: it is printed, said out loud and lived with, and a suggestion generated from a company name is rarely the one they want. The bio is a conversation too — a sentence in the client’s own voice beats a fluent sentence in nobody’s.

And the taste calls stay yours: which link is featured this month, whether a background photo helps or hurts, whether the grid layout suits their images. An agent will do any of these on request and none of them well on its own, because the answer depends on things that are not in the brief.
